There is a new kid in town – Anthropic just released the newest generation of its Claude models: Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4, both setting new standards for coding, advanced reasoning and AI agents.

Claude Opus 4 was especially developed as a coding model, providing sustained performance on complex, long-running tasks and agent workflow, whereas Claude Sonnet 4 is an upgrade from its predecessor Claude Sonnet 3.7 providing support on superior coding and reasoning.

What does this mean in detail? These new models can use tools like web search during extended thinking, this allows Claude to alternate between reasoning and tool use to improve responses. Additionally both models are able to use tools in parallel, allowing them to follow instructions more precisely, and demonstrate improved memory capabilities. Claude Code also supports background tasks via GitHub Actions and native integrations with VS Code and JetBrains, being able to display edits directly in the users files. Finally, also new API capabilities were announced including the code execution tool, MCP connector, Files API and the ability to cache prompts for up to one hour.

With these new releases Anthropic is providing developers and users with models that are a step closer to the virtual collaborator, being able to maintain full context, sustain focus on longer projects and drive transformational impact. Let´s see what is next in line.
